Galveston Cruise Hotel Quick Facts

All named properties were accepting reservations under the displayed hotel or brand identity when checked on September 11, 2026. Still open the hotel’s own booking page before paying, because ownership, packages, and amenity hours can change faster than a guide can.

Compare the refundable final total, not a sample nightly rate. Include occupancy and tourism taxes, destination or resort fees, breakfast, parking, extra-person charges, and the cost of getting every traveler and bag to the correct terminal.

  • Terminal assignment: Match the terminal number on your cruise documents to the current Port of Galveston map before booking parking or a drop-off.
  • Shuttle: get the pickup point, operating window, reservation deadline, price basis, luggage allowance, and terminal coverage in writing; an airport shuttle is not automatically a cruise shuttle.
  • Parking: confirm whether the rate covers only the hotel night or the entire sailing, whether oversized vehicles cost more, and how you return to the car.
  • Check-in: standard check-in may be hours after an early flight, so verify luggage storage and never treat an early-room request as guaranteed.
  • Accessibility: reserve the exact room category, then confirm the entry route, elevator, bathroom setup, bed clearance, and whether the transfer vehicle can carry a wheelchair or scooter.

Galveston has no major commercial airport, so flyers need a complete Houston-airport-to-island plan before choosing a hotel. Hobby is generally the easier Houston airport for Galveston, but either airport requires a reserved transfer, rental car, or other ground transportation and a substantial traffic cushion.

Best Areas to Stay Near Galveston Cruise Port

Not sure which part of the island suits you? Here is how I think about the three main zones.

Seawall Boulevard and the Beach

Best for: beach lovers who want Gulf views and easy port access. This 10-mile stretch is where most of the hotels above sit, from budget motels to the San Luis.

You are 5 to 10 minutes from the terminals and steps from the sand. For attractions and seasonal events, the official Galveston Island tourism site is a great planning tool.

Historic Downtown and The Strand

Best for: history buffs, foodies, and anyone who loves walkable streets. The Strand district packs Victorian architecture, boutique shopping, and great restaurants into a few blocks.

The Tremont House and Grand Galvez put you close to all of it. This is also the closest neighborhood to the port, under a mile from the terminals.

Near the Port and Harborside

Best for: drive-in cruisers who want the shortest possible transfer. Harborside Drive and the downtown edge sit just minutes from check-in.

Confirm terminal details and parking on the official Port of Galveston website before you go. Flying in?

Most guests land at Houston’s two airports, and the Houston Airport System site covers ground transport to the island.

My Pick for a Pre-Cruise Stay

If you want my honest shortlist, book the DoubleTree or Holiday Inn Resort for the beach-and-shuttle combo. Go budget at the Best Western Plus Seawall Inn, or treat yourself at Grand Galvez.

Whatever you choose, book early. Galveston’s cruise season runs heavy from November through April, and the best Gulf-view rooms sell out first.

Sailing from a different homeport soon? We have the same honest breakdowns for hotels near the New Orleans cruise port and hotels near the Miami cruise port.
